G-Braves Win Fifth Straight

The Lead: The Gwinnett Braves defeated the Pawtucket Red Sox 4-2 on Tuesday night at Coolray Field. Braves starting pitcher James Parr had his longest appearance on the mound since 2008 in the victory. The G-Braves have won 5 straight and will be looking for their first series sweep of this season tomorrow night. Gwinnett (14-12) remains in second place in the International League South and 2 games behind Durham for first place. Pawtucket remains in last place in the IL North.

It Was Over When: Parr took the mound. He threw 111 pitches and 66 strikes to make sure the G-Braves maintained the lead for the entire game.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: Parr (2-2) went 6.2 innings and struck out 3 while allowing only 2 R/ER on 5 hits. Craig Kimbrel earned his sixth save of the season, striking out 4 and allowing no runs.

At the plate: First baseman Freddie Freeman went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI. Third baseman Wes Timmons went 1-for-2 with 2 walks, a triple, stolen base, and 2 runs scored. In his debut for Gwinnett, shortstop Luis Bolivar went 1-for-3 with a double, stolen base, and a run scored.

The Opposition:

On the Mound: Starter Michael Bowden (0-1) allowed 3 R/ER on 6 hits in 4.2 IP for his first loss on the year. Dustin Richardson struck out 3 and walked 3 in 1.1 IP. Scott Atchison struck out 3 in 2.0 IP.

At the plate: First baseman Lars Anderson went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Third baseman Jorge Jimenez went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

On Deck: Gwinnett hosts Pawtucket in the final game of a four-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Coolray Field. G-Braves RHP Chris Resop (2-1, 1.40 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Randor Bierd (2-2, 4.74 ERA) of the Red Sox.
