Potomac Nationals News Release

(WOODBRIDGE, VA) For the second time in three nights, the Potomac Nationals enjoyed a successful, injury-free rehab assignment from a major leaguer. Unfortunately for the P-Nats, for the second time they lost a ballgame to the Frederick Keys. Ross Detwiler pitched three scoreless innings, but the Keys' Ryan O'Shea tossed six scoreless to headline a 4-3 Frederick win. Frederick took the bookends of the series and wrapped up the first half with eight wins in eleven matchups with Potomac.

The Nats, silenced for the first seven innings, awakened in the eighth. Dan Lyons and Wilberto Ortiz singled off Raul Rivero to open the inning. Chris Curran then dropped a bunt single down the third base line. Billy Rowell barehanded and fired an ill-advised throw into the Nats' bullpen in right field that allowed two runs to score and Curran to sprint to third. Steve Lombardozzi then brought Curran home with a groundout to first. But Rivero hunkered down and retired Derek Norris and Mike Burgess to end the frame.

Tyler Moore singled to lead off the ninth, but Nick Moresi's sacrifice bunt attempt was fielded by Sean Gleason, who threw to second to retire Jose Lozada, who had been summoned to pinch run. Robbie Jacobsen then struck out and Lyons grounded into a fielders' choice to end it.

The Keys broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning off Pat Lehman, who made a scheduled piggyback after Detwiler departed - and the rally all came with two outs. After Lehman got Kyle Hudson and Xavier Avery to open the frame, Greg Miclat reached on an infield single. Lehman then hit consecutive hitters and paid the price. With the bases loaded, Miguel Abreu roped a single into left field to score two.

Frederick tacked on another pair of runs in the sixth inning, and they did so again with a two-out rally ignited with an infield single. Avery beat out a grounder to short, and he scored when Miclat hit a home run just over the wall in right - the eleventh home run yielded by Lehman in 2010. Over five innings, Lehman allowed the four earned runs on five hits; he walked two and struck out five.

Two of Detwiler's three innings were a little stressful. In the first, Hudson led off the game with a single to center. He was cut down at second base when Avery grounded to second. Detwiler then struck out Miclat and got Julius to ground to third. He worked around a single that opened the second with a strikeout and two fiy balls. In the third, he got Hudson to ground out and picked off Avery who had walked. A two-out error extended the inning and was followed by a Welty single. But the threat was extinguished when Julius grounded out to first.

Detwiler plans to join the Harrisburg Senators tomorrow to continue his rehab.

The Nationals hit the road for a seven-game jaunt to Lynchburg and Myrtle Beach. The stretch begins at 7:05 Thursday at City Stadium. The broadcast can be heard beginning at 6:50. Potomac will close out the first half at Pfitzner Stadium with a three-game series with the Hillcats beginning Friday June 18.
