San Diego Gulls News Release

Valley View Casino Center

2-1-0-0, 4 points

The San Diego Gulls defeated the Texas Stars 5-1 tonight at Valley View Casino Center. San Diego has the highest win percentage among Western Conference clubs the past three seasons (84-43-7-4, .644%), and the Gulls also have the most wins in the Pacific Division since its inception in 2015 (84).

Alex Dostie scored his first professional goal in his regular-season debut with San Diego to open the scoring. Selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the fourth round (115th overall) of the 2016 NHL draft, Dostie made his professional debut with the Gulls in Game 4 of the Pacific Division Final on May 12, 2017.

Defenseman Steve Oleksy collected his first multi-point game of the season with a goal and assist (1-12). In three games this season, Oleksy has two goals (2-13) and is only two goals shy of this AHL career high of four set in 2014-15 with the Hershey Bears (68 games).

Mike Liambas notched his first goal as a Gull, a shorthanded goal. His last goal came with Milwaukee on Dec. 28, 2016 vs. Iowa.

Left wing Kevin Roy scored his team-leading third goal of the season (3-14) in the second period.

Center Kalle Kossila earned his first multi-point game of the season with two assist (0-22). Last season with the Gulls, Kossila recorded 12 multi-point games and six multi-assist contests.

Deven Sideroff collected his second career assist on Kevin Roy's tally. The assist marked Sideroff's first assist since Apr. 16, 2016 vs. Ontario. Selected by Anaheim in the third round, 84th overall in 2015, Sideroff spent the 2016-17 season with Kamloops of the Western Hockey League (WHL) where he scored 36-4278 points and a +26 rating in 67 games.

Kevin Boyle started his third-consecutive contest to open the season, stopping 19-of-20 shots for his second win of the campaign.

Tonight's attendance was 7,109. San Diego will travel to Stockton to face the Heat in a back-to-back matchup next weekend on Oct. 20-21 at Stockton Arena.

POSTGAME QUOTES

San Diego Gulls

Alex Dostie On his first game and goal It's incredible to play my first game here in San Diego. The crowd is awesome and to score in my first game, in the first period is pretty special. I will remember that the rest of my life.

On the team's performance I think we put more pressure the way that we can. We have a very fast team, so we used our speed to match their speed. I think we stuck to our plan. I think we played better and we know it.

Kevin Boyle On tonight's start I think we got our feet under ourselves a little bit. We came out I think, just because of the delay, a little slow in the first couple of minutes. But after that we really controlled the pace the rest of the game.

On rebounding from last night I think all the guys learned from last tonight. We knew what we had to do. It was a little different than last night. I thought the energy on the team was great. I think we were a little jittery last night, big crowd, home opener, but we came out tonight and took care of business.

Head Coach Dallas Eakins On tonight's game I still didn't love our start tonight. We just seemed a little bit out of sync. I thought in the second and third periods we played well. Especially Kossila was so good tonight. Kevin Boyle was excellent. Oleksy was very good. Mike Liambas did a hell of a job on our penalty kill. We had some guys really step up tonight, and that's what you need early in the season.

On picking up wins early We want to grab the wins now. You don't want to be looking for these things in April because they are hard to come by. I thought our guys really recognized that and with different guys chipping in it makes everybody feel part of it.
