MONSTERS GAME SUMMARY: Monsters Upended by Moose, 4-1
October 15, 2017 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - The Cleveland Monsters, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, were defeated by the Manitoba Moose on Sunday at Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg, MB, by a final score of 4-1. With the loss, the Monsters fell to 1-2-0-0 this season and with a .333 points percentage, currently sit alone in sixth place in the AHL's Central Division standings.
For the second consecutive game, the Moose held a 1-0 lead on Cleveland through one period of play as Manitoba's Jansen Harkins potted an even-strength breakaway at 4:01 for the opening frame's lone tally. In the middle stanza, an unassisted, even-strength goal by Cleveland's John Mitchell at 9:57 tied the game at one, but the Moose re-claimed the edge at 2-1, thanks to a power-play finish from Kyle Connor at 15:20 that proved to be Sunday's game-winning marker.
The third period saw an extra-man Brendan Lemieux score extended the Manitoba advantage to 3-1 just 46 seconds into the frame, and after Lemieux added an empty-netter at 18:00, the Moose prevailed by a final of 4-1. Cleveland net-minder Matiss Kivlenieks fell to 0-1-0 in net after supplying 31 saves in his first professional appearance, while Manitoba goaltender Eric Comrie improved to 1-1-0 on the season by virtue of a 28-save performance.
