July 10, 2010 - California League (CalL1)
San Jose Giants News Release

Stockton's Grant Green hit a two-run homer while Stephen Parker added a three-run shot and the Ports held the Giants hitless over the last four innings in a 5-2 victory over San Jose on Friday evening at Banner Island Ballpark. All five of Stockton's runs came on the two homers as the Ports salvaged a game of the three-game series. With the loss, the Giants' overall record drops to 50-36.

Michael Ambort (1-for-4, HR, RBI) hit his first home run since joining San Jose while Johnny Monell (2-for-3, 2 2B) connected for a pair of doubles to lead the Giants offensively. San Jose though stranded 10 runners on base from the second through the fifth innings and didn't record a hit after Monell's double with two outs in the fifth.

Stockton took a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as David Thomas led off with a double into right center before Green stepped to the plate and drove a fly ball over the fence in left center field. The home run was Green's eighth of the season.

The Giants climbed to within 2-1 in the top of the second as Ambort led off with an opposite field homer to right. San Jose though had an opportunity for more as Jose Flores singled with one out before Monell walked and Matt Klimas drew a two-out walk to load the bases. However, Ports starter Ben Hornbeck struck out Juan Perez to end the threat.

San Jose was then unable to capitalize on three Hornbeck walks in the third before Stockton extended their lead in the bottom of the frame. Consecutive one-out singles from Thomas and Green started the rally before Parker hammered a 1-0 pitch from Odle well over the fence in right center field. The home run, Parker's 11th of the year, gave the Ports a 5-1 lead.

In the top of the fourth, Monell led off with a double off the fence in right center before scoring on Klimas' one-out single into left. Perez followed with a single of his own before Peguero walked to load the bases. However, Hornbeck once again pitched out of a bases loaded jam striking out Charlie Culberson on three pitches before Ambort flied out to left.

The Giants threatened in the fifth when Monell doubled with two outs before James Simmons drew a walk to prompt a pitching change. Reliever Lance Sewell then entered the contest and induced Klimas to groundout to third base ending the inning.

Sewell (4-0) was credited with the victory after tossing 3 1/3 perfect innings. The left-hander worked 1-2-3 sixth, seventh and eighth frames before Paul Smyth worked around a two-out walk in the ninth to earn the save. Culberson's two-out walk in the final inning broke a string of 12 consecutive San Jose hitters that had been retired by the Ports bullpen.

Odle (9-3) suffered the loss for the Giants after surrendering five runs (all earned) on nine hits over five innings. Odle struck out four and walked none.
