San Jose Giants News Release

Stockton's Andrew Bailey fired seven scoreless innings to lead the Ports to a 7-2 victory over the San Jose Giants on Wednesday night. In front of 2,448 fans at Municipal Stadium, Bailey was masterful allowing just two hits with two walks and seven strikeouts as the Ports defeated San Jose for the second consecutive evening. With the loss, the Giants fall to 25-21 in the Second Half and now sit four games behind first-place Modesto (29-17) in the North Division.

David Maroul (1-for-3, HR, RBI) and Brian Bocock (1-for-4, HR, RBI) both belted solo homers in the bottom of the eighth to account for San Jose's only two runs of the contest.

Paul Oseguera (8-6) suffered the loss after surrendering six runs (five earned) on seven hits in five-plus innings of work. Stockton scored all of their runs in the middle innings with two in fourth, one in the fifth, and four in the top of the sixth.

San Jose's only serious threat against Bailey came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Pablo Sandoval led off with a double. But Sandoval was stranded at second base after Travis Ishikawa struck out, Anthony Contreras popped out, and Maroul struck out to end the inning.

Stockton jumped in front with a pair of runs off Oseguera in the top of the fourth. Frank Martinez led off by drawing a walk before Jon Zeringue doubled to put runners on second and third. Then consecutive sacrifice flies from Jose Pineda and Tommy Everidge scored both runners to give the Ports a 2-0 advantage.

In the fifth, Steve Kleen led off with a single before stealing second base. Raul Padron followed with a sacrifice bunt back to the mound, but he reached base safely when Oseguera uncorked a wild throw to first base. The error allowed Kleen to score from second base with Stockton's third run of the night.

The Ports then sent nine hitters to the plate in a four-run top of the sixth to take control of the game. Zeringue led off with a towering home run down the left field line to make the score 4-0. After Pineda singled and Everidge drew a walk, Oseguera was removed from the contest in favor of Jason Waddell.

A passed ball on Sandoval moved both runners up 90 feet before Waddell struck out Darryl Lawhorn. After an intentional walk to Kleen, Padron singled sharply into right field scoring both Pineda and Everidge for a 6-0 lead.

Two batters later, Justin Sellers singled home the fourth run of the inning.

Facing reliever Jeff Muessig, the Giants scored their first run of the series in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases empty, Maroul drove a 2-1 pitch over the fence in deep left center field for his team-leading 20th home run of the year. Then with two down, Bocock connected for a solo home run down the left field line to bring San Jose within 7-2.

Brad Davis finished the game for Stockton with a perfect bottom of the ninth.
