JetHawks Get Five Runs in the Ninth But Lose by One to Modesto

(LANCASTER, CA) - The Modesto Nuts are learning that anything can happen at Clear Channel Stadium. A day after surrendering 15 runs to the Lancaster JetHawks, they almost let a eight run lead slip away. The JetHawks scored five runs in the ninth inning and brought the tying-run to the plate before the Nuts finally closed the game out, winning 9-8.

The JetHawks were down throughout the entire game. The Nuts got the first of two home runs by Justin Nelson in the opening inning to take a 1-0 lead. They continued to add to their advantage, pulling ahead 9-1 through the sixth inning.

A two-run homer by Aaron Bates made the score 9-3 going to the ninth inning. Lancaster then started the ninth with four straight hits, singles by Mark Wagner and Mickey Hall and doubles by Scott White and Salvador Paniagua. A two-run homer by Zach Daeges got the team within one, but they fell one run short.

Bates homer was his 24th of the season, tying him for the league lead. Daeges had two hits, including his minor league-leading 46th double of the year. Brad Correll had three singles and Wagner two for the JetHawks.

The JetHawks wrap up a three-game homestand Thursday night against the Modesto Nuts. The JetHawks starter will be Adam Cox (0-0, 0.00) while the Nuts go with Alan Johnson (11-5, 2.99). The game starts at 7:00 PM and will be broadcast on radio at Magic 1340 AM, as well as on internet at www.JetHawks.com. The Pre-Game Show starts at 6:45.

It will be a Cheers Buck Beers Thursday at Clear Channel Stadium. Fans can purchase draught beers for just $1 each.
