Stockton Ports News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. -The Stockton Ports are proud to announce that they have partnered with News10 to support education in the Stockton and San Joaquin County communities, and will be hosting a "Tools for Schools" Night on Tuesday, July 28 to benefit the News10's "Tools for Schools" program.
The Ports encourage all fans to be a hero to area students by bringing new school supplies to the 7:05 p.m. game on Tuesday, July 28. There will be several barrels posted near the gates for fans to donate supplies.
"We are very excited to work with News10 on such a worthy cause," said Ports Marketing Director Justin Gray. "Schools in our area are in great need of supplies, and we are proud to work together with our generous fans to ensure that students get the equipment they need. We hope to see all of the barrels full of supplies by the end of the game."
All school supplies donated at the game will stay local in the Stockton/Modesto area and go to needy schools as determined by area Superintendents. News10, along with Office Depot, Schools Financial Credit Union and the CHP, are very grateful to Ports fans for supporting such an important program.
The first 250 fans to donate school supplies will receive a copy of "Satchel: The Life and Times of an American Legend," the new biography of Negro Leagues pitcher Satchel Paige by acclaimed author Larry Tye.
The Stockton Ports welcomed Tye to Banner Island Ballpark on June 18 to discuss the book, and the first 350 families to enter the game that night received a free copy of the book. The Ports are proud to add to their efforts to promote literacy through baseball, by giving away copies of the book to fans again on July 28.
