Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - The Lancaster JetHawks opened a six game homestand on Sunday night at the Hangar with an 11-8 loss to the Stockton Ports. It is the fourth win in as many tries for Stockton against Lancaster.
Things looked good early for the JetHawks, who scored three times in the first inning and once in the second to jump out to a 4-1 lead. In the first, Brandon Barnes singled in J.B. Shuck, who had been hit by a pitch to open the game. Jon Gaston then singled before Matt Weston doubled to left to score Barnes and Gaston. In the second, it was a Koby Clemens two-out single that again scored Shuck.
The lead stayed at four until the Ports came storming back for four of their own in the fourth inning. Five of the first six Ports singled to open the frame against JetHawks spot starter Shane Wolf. Grant Desme, Frank Martinez, Matt Smith and Jermaine Mitchell drove in runs.
The Ports seized a lead they would never relinquish when they scored three runs in the sixth inning. After Desme walked and Frank Martinez singled, Smith hit a sacrifice fly to right. Michael Richard then singled in another run. The Ports then scored when a throw got past relief pitcher Chris Salamida.
Lancaster did make it a one-run game with two of their own in the sixth. After a one-out walk to Brandon Barnes, Jon Gaston hit his Cal-League-leading 23rd home run.
The Ports tacked on four more in the seventh inning, and the JetHawks kept the game interesting with a couple runs in the eighth. Koby Clemens drove in three runs on the night, running his season total to 71.
