Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Stockton, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes' offense stalled for a second straight night, as the Stockton Ports took the opening game of a three-game series over the Quakes with a 7-1 win on Saturday night at Banner Island Ballpark.
Stockton starting pitcher Fabian Williamson earned his first win since being acquired from the Boston organization. Williamson (1-0) allowed just one run on three hits over six innings.
Luis Jimenez cracked a solo home run in the fourth inning, his sixth of the year, for the Quakes' lone run. They now have just three runs in their last two games, all solo homers. After just five hits on Saturday, they have a total of 11 hits over their last two games.
The Ports wasted little time jumping on Quakes' starter Manny Flores. Jermaine Mitchell opened the game with a home run to right field, his fifth of the year to put the Ports up 1-0. That home run highlighted a three-run inning, as the Ports claimed a 3-0 advantage after just one inning.
The Jimenez homer put the Quakes on the board and pulled the Quakes to within two in the fourth, making it a 3-1 game.
Four in the fifth put the Quakes away though, as Grant Green had an RBI double and Yusuf Carter ripped a three-run dinger, putting the Ports up 7-1.
Flores (3-6) allowed a total of seven runs on 11 hits over 5 2/3 innings.
The Quakes' bullpen continued their domination, tossing 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief on Saturday, as Kyle Hurst and Nick Pugliese combined to give up just one hit, striking out two.
The Quakes (13-10, 52-41) look to end their two-game slide on Sunday night, sending Orangel Arenas (3-1) to the hill, opposite Stockton's Shawn Haviland (6-6) at 6:05pm.
On Tuesday, July 20th, the Quakes return to The Epicenter, opening a three-game home stand against Bakersfield. The upcoming home stand includes a GIVE Recycle Tuesday, an early-morning 10:35am game and a Buffalo Wild Wings Thirsty Thursday. Tickets can be purchased by calling (909) 481-5000 or anytime online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at The Epicenter on Saturday night...Go Quakes!
