Stockton Ports News Release
The Ports (28-36) offense set a new season high with 18 hits, pounding out a 9-0 victory over the Bakersfield Blaze (25-38) Monday night. The Ports jumped on top early, scoring two in the bottom of the first when Cameron Coughlan and Adam Fox, the table setters at the top of the order each singled. They were driven in by the big bats behind, when Jeremy Cleveland singled and Seth Taylor doubled home a run.
That was all the help Ports starter John Hudgins would need. Hudgins gave up just three hits in his six innings of work while fanning seven Blaze batters. Hudgins did not walk a batter on his way to facing just two over the minimum number of hitters. It would be a fitting end for Hudgins in Stockton as he was promoted to AA Frisco in the Texas League following the game. Hudgins was 3-1, and among the top three in the California League with a 2.35 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 65 innings.
Meanwhile, the Stockton offense continued to pour it on. The Ports added a pair in the third when Juan Senreiso doubled home Adam Fox and Jeremy Cleveland. Cleveland, spending his first night for the Ports batting third, had a successful 2-4 night with two runs scored. Vincent Sinisi, who had hit third all year for the Ports broke his arm late in Sunday's contest versus the San Jose Giants and is out for 4-6 weeks.
Stockton chased Bakersfield starter Brian Lockwood with a four run fourth. Dustin Smith and Craig Ringe got the inning started from the bottom of the order, and Adam Fox and Juan Senreiso completed it by driving in two runs each.
Righthander Cody Smith pitched three scoreless innings for his first save of the year.
