Inland Empire 66ers News Release

Stockton, CA- The Stockton Ports Matt Stalcup outdueled Inland Empire 66ers starter Ryan Etsell in a taut 3-1 win for the Ports. The win evened the series at a game apiece with the decider scheduled for Sunday.

The 66ers opened the scoring in the top of the second with one out when Caleb Adams lifted a homer to right field off the southpaw Stalcup to give IE a 1-0 lead. It was Adams' third homer with the Sixers. The run would be the lone score against Stalcup who tossed a season-best seven innings and allowed just the one run while stymieing the offense for only three hits and a walk against six Ks. He improved to 3-5 on the year.

The Ports tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the second when Jake Nottingham, the Redlands CA native, drilled a solo shot off Ryan Etsell (7-4). The Ports (68-64, 30-32) would take a 2-1 lead in the third Michael Soto tallied the first of his two doubles in the game. Branden Cogswell bunted him to third base and he came home on Etsell's throwing error on the play. Etsell went six innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits with two walks and five K's. The Ports added an insurance run in the seventh when Soto doubled and Cogswell tripled him in to make it 3-1.

Inland Empire (60-72, 25-37) brought the tying run to the plate in the eighth against reliever Ben Bracewell and again in the ninth versus closer Corey Walter but could not get runs across the plate. The 66ers were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position on the night. Tyler Palmer and Mike Fish each had two hits in the loss for Inland Empire; Palmer smacked a double for the Sixers lone extra-base hit aside from Adams' homer.

The series concludes on Sunday at 6:10 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com.
