Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks built an early lead and received six strong innings from starter Austin Chrismon in a 7-4 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm on Saturday night at The Hangar.
Chrismon (7-3) turned in a quality start for the JetHawks (71-61), limiting the Storm (47-85) to two runs on nine hits, striking out five and walking just one. The win placed Lancaster a season-high 10 games above .500.
Brian Holberton and J.D. Davis both homered in the contest. Holberton led the JetHawks with three runs batted in, while Davis' home run was his second in two games.
Davis' homer was a two-run shot in the bottom of the first inning off Kyle Lloyd (6-11). Lake Elsinore plated a run in the top of the second on a Donavan Tate RBI-single, but Lancaster extended its lead to 4-1 in the bottom half on Holberton's solo home run and a James Ramsay RBI-single.
Lloyd surrendered six runs on seven hits over five innings of work and took the loss.
The Storm came within two runs on a solo home run by Nick Schulz in the third. But with Lloyd still on the mound to begin the bottom of the sixth, Davis singled and scored on a triple by Sean McMullen, and the latter came home on a Holberton sacrifice fly with Chris Nunn pitching in relief.
Holberton hit his second sacrifice fly of the game in the bottom of the eighth for an insurance run. Reliever Ryan Thompson then struggled in the ninth for Lancaster after pitching perfect seventh and eighth innings in relief. Loading the bases on two singles and a walk, the right-hander yielded two runs on a groundout and a sacrifice fly before ending the game with a strikeout of Schulz.
The JetHawks will play for the series sweep on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. Akeem Bostick (4-4, 7.15) will take the mound for Lancaster against Lake Elsinore's Michael Kelly (0-4, 8.55). Active and retired military members can receive 2-for-1 grandstand tickets with proof of military ID.
