Wilson Mashes Six Hits in Wild 19-10 Win

August 30, 2015 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release

The Bakersfield Blaze and High Desert Mavericks got caught up in a wacky one on Saturday evening in Adelanto, with Bakersfield scoring a season-high 19 runs on a season-high 25 hits en route to a 19-10 victory in game two of the series on the road.

Tyler Pike (W, 5-6) and Reed Garrett (L, 7-5) were the starting pitchers in this game, and one might not believe the score at the halfway point. Pike allowed just two runs over the first five innings, and Garrett lasted just four innings, giving up three earned.

The final four innings of the game saw the contest flip on its head and turn into a game of beer-league softball. The teams combined to score 23 runs from the 6th through the 9th. The Blaze sent 13 batters to the plate in the 6th inning, scoring seven times to open up a big nine-run lead. The Mavs came back with four in the home half to cut the deficit to 11-6.

Bakersfield added three each in the 7th and 8th and two more in the 9th, blasting through the previous season-high of 13 runs by six, and completely rewriting the season-high mark in hits, previously 16 and now 25.

Carlos Misell worked the final three innings for the save, his second, and four Mavs relievers ended up getting tagged with 15 of the 19 runs.

The win is the 18th of the month for Bakersfield, with a chance to go for 19 tomorrow in a 5:05pm series finale in Adelanto. Ryan Yarbrough gets the start, and fans can listen to the broadcast live at BakersfieldBlaze.com and via the TuneIn Radio app. Dan Besbris has the call.
