Inland Empire 66ers News Release

Stockton, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers fell 10-1 at Banner Island Ballpark on Sunday to the Stockton Ports giving the home club the series win in the three-game set. The win also evened the season-series at 7-7.

The 66ers (60-73, 23-38) took a lead in the top of the third inning against Ports starter Casey Meisner (2-1) when Roberto Baldoquin singled to open the inning and moved second on a wild pitch. Tyler Palmer then doubled off the wall in left-center to knock in Baldoquin and give the Sixers a 1-0 lead. It was the last time the Sixers scored in the contest as the offense mustered just two more hits the rest of the game.

The Ports (69-64, 31-32) jumped on IE starter Jeremy Rhoades in the fourth inning after he had tossed three scoreless to open his outing. Rhoades (4-5) gave up a homer to Stockton's Yairo Munoz (4) to open the inning and tie the game 1-1. The next five batters reached base culminating in Michael Soto's grand slam to left field making it 6-1. The Ports added another run against Rhoades when Brett Vertigan tripled and Munoz, batting for the second time in the frame, knocked him in with a double. Munoz added a singled later in the game for a three-hit night. Rhoades was charged with seven runs in 3.2 IP.

Meisner went five innings and allowed one run on four hits with five Ks and no walks. The trio of Lou Trivino, Sam Bragg and Joel Seddon shut the 66ers down the rest of the way. Trivino allowed two walks in two innings and that was it offensively for Inland Empire. Both pitching staffs struck out ten and walked two, but the Ports offense tallied 16 hits to Inland Empire's four.

The Sixers open a series on Tuesday at San Manuel Stadium versus the High Desert Mavericks at 7:05 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com.
