Modesto Nuts News Release
Modesto, CA. - In the bottom of the ninth, Ashley Graeter was thrown out at the plate ending the Modesto Nuts' 2-1 loss to the Visalia Rawhide on Sunday night at John Thurman Field.
Down two in the ninth with two outs and two on, Drew Weeks hit a groundball to short. Weeks beat out an infield single, but Domingo Leyba's throw airmailed first allowing Rosell Herrera to score. The throw to the plate scooted by the catcher to the backstop. Graeter tried to score from third. He slid past the plate and was then tagged out by the catcher Baker to end the game.
It was a wild finish to what had been a pitcher's duel. Antonio Senzatela (L, 9-8) tossed seven innings for the Nuts (66-67; 33-30). The lone run he allowed was a first inning solo home run to Daniel Palka. The righty struck out eight and did not walk a batter.
Lucas Irvine (W, 1-0) tossed 6.2 frames allowing no runs and four hits for the Rawhide (81-52; 39-24). He left with the bases loaded, two outs and a one-run lead in the sixth. Bud Jeter came on and struck out Correlle Prime to preserve the lead.
Nick Sariandides (S, 26) earned the save in the ninth.
The Nuts begin a seven-game, regular-season ending road trip on Tuesday night. The first game of a three-game series in San Jose begins at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:55 p.m.
