Stockton Ports News Release
MODESTO, Ca. - Three pitchers combined on the Ports' fourth shutout of the season and Danny Bautista hit Stockton's only home run of the week in a 4-0 win over the Modesto Nuts in the series finale at John Thurman Field.
The victory clinched the Ports' fourth series win of the season, and their third over the Nuts.
The Ports (30-51) got on the board to take the lead in the top of the second inning. Junior Perez reached on a bunt single with one out and after stealing second base, scored when T.J. Schofield-Sam roped a triple over the head of Modesto left fielder Freuddy Batista to make it 1-0 Stockton. Schofield-Sam scored when the next hitter, CJ Rodriguez, drove a sacrifice fly to center field to double the Ports' lead to 2-0.
More situational hitting allowed the Ports to add on in the fourth inning. Shane McGuire led off with a single and reached third base when Perez hit a one-out double to left field. Schofield-Sam then lifted the first pitch he saw from Modesto reliever Brayan Perez to deep center field for a sacrifice fly increase the Ports' advantage to 3-0.
Bautista's solo shot leading off the top of the sixth extended the Stockton lead to 4-0.
The Ports' offensive showing was more than enough for the three pitchers who combined to keep the Nuts off the scoreboard. Starter Yehizon Sanchez allowed just two hits over three shutout innings with two strikeouts, Luke Anderson surrendered just four hits with four strikeouts in his 5.2 innings of shutout relief, and Serafino Brito got the final out to end the ballgame.
Anderson (5-6) got the win, while Modesto starter Bryan Woo (0-1) took the loss allowing three runs on five hits in 3.1 innings.
After winning four of their last five in Modesto and taking the series, the Ports return home to start a six-game series with the Inland Empire 66ers on Tuesday night at Banner Island Ballpark with first pitch at 7:05 pm. Tickets are available at stocktonports.com or by calling (209) 644-1900.
