Portland Winterhawks News Release
Hawks Happenings On The Ice:
The Winterhawks will take on the Kamloops Blazers in the Western Conference Final beginning Friday at 7 p.m. in Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Portland was 3-1 in the regular season against the Blazers, led by 10 points from Brendan Leipsic, who had at least two points in all four games. Mac Carruth got all four starts in net, and posted a goals against average of 2.01 and .922 save percentage, including a shutout win in the last meeting on Feb. 20.
Last year's second round meeting between the Hawks and Blazers, which Portland won in seven games, was the first playoff matchup between the two teams since 1995. However, the two franchises have a long playoff history, with 11 previous matchups. They've won five series each, along with a round robin meeting in 1995.
Not only is Ty Rattie the leading point-getter in Winterhawks playoff history, he's moving up the WHL's all-time leaderboards. His 41 playoff goals ties him for second in league history with Reg Leach (Flin Flon, 1967-70), with the league record being 47, held by Mark Pederson (Medicine Hat, 1983-88). Furthermore, his 78 postseason points are fifth in league history. The leaderboards for both categories are as follows:
Goals: Points:
1: Mark Pederson, 47 (Medicine Hat, 1983-88) 1: Dale Derkatch, 103 (Regina, 1982-85)
2. Rattie, 41 (Portland 2010-13) 2: Greg Hawgood, 100 (Kamloops 1983-88)
Reg Leach, 41 (Flin Flon, 1967-70) 3: Rob Brown, 86 (Kamloops, 1983-87)
4: Brian Propp, 36 (Brandon, 1977-79) 4: Brad Moran, 82 (Calgary, 1995-00)
Ray Allison, 36 (Brandon, 1975-79) 5: Rattie, 78 (Portland, 2010-13)
Hawks Happenings Off The Ice:
Heading into the conference final the Hawks continue to lead the WHL in playoff attendance, with an average of 8,786 through five home games. That's over 1,500 fans per game more than the second place team, Edmonton, who's averaged 7,152 in their five home contests.
Tickets for Game 1 and Game 2 of the Conference Final are on sale now at winterhawks.com, the Rose Quarter box office and the Winterhawks' ticket office in Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
