Hawks Happenings On The Ice:
The Winterhawks' power play has been outstanding in the playoffs thus far, connecting on 39.3% of their opportunities, with at least two power play goals in four of the five games thus far. The 39.3% conversion rate is the best mark in the WHL during the postseason, with the second place team, Edmonton, connecting at 26.3%. During the regular season, the Hawks were second in the league, scoring on 23.4% of their opportunities.
Four Hawks already have at least two power play goals, with Brendan Leipsic leading the way with three, and Chase De Leo, Nic Petan and Derrick Pouliot each with two. Pouliot also leads the league with four power play assists.
Driven by the power play, the Hawks have players throughout the league's leaderboards, with Leipsic tied for the league lead in playoff scoring with JC Lipon of the Kamloops Blazers, each with 11 points. Linemate Ty Rattie is tied for third with 10 points, while Petan is tied for fifth with nine points. Pouliot also leads all WHL defensemen with eight points thus far in the postseason.
The Hawks continue to lead the WHL in playoff attendance, averaging 9,143 fans through the first three home games. The next closest team, Calgary, averaged 7,647 in their first round series, while Edmonton averaged 7,592.
Portland-Everett is one of three series still going in the Western Conference. Kamloops and Victoria play Game 6 of their series tonight with the Blazers leading 3-2, while Game 6 of the Seattle-Kelowna series is tomorrow with the Thunderbirds ahead 3-2. Spokane defeated the Tri-City Americans in five games to advance to the second round. The second round of the Eastern Conference bracket is set, with the Edmonton Oil Kings taking on the Medicine Hat Tigers and the Calgary Hitmen going up against the Red Deer Rebels.
Hawks Happenings Off The Ice:
Fans can watch Game 6 in Everett tonight at a number of viewing parties around town. There are two parties for fans 21 and over at The Sports Page in Beaverton and McGillacuddy's in NE Portland. There will also be four all-ages parties at Brix Tavern in the Pearl District, Game Time in Lake Oswego, Kenton Station in North Portland and The Rock in Vancouver.
