Portland Winterhawks News Release

Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

The Winterhawks went 2-1 in this past weekend's preseason tournament in Everett, and conclude their preseason action this weekend with two games in Kennewick, WA. Friday they take on the Kootenay Ice at 3 p.m., and Saturday they play the Seattle Thunderbirds, also at 3 p.m. Todd Vrooman will be calling all the action live on winterhawks.com and the team's smartphone app.

After Saturday's game against Seattle, the Winterhawks will have nearly two weeks off before opening the regular season on Friday, September 21 against the Thunderbirds, on a night when they will raise the 2012 Western Conference championship banner. The Hawks have won three straight home openers, and are 23-11-2-0-0 all-time in home openers.

Five players registered at least two points in the Everett tournament, and of the five, four are rookies: Dominic Turgeon, who led the team with three points, Keoni Texeira (who at 15 isn't eligible to play full-time for the Hawks this season), Alex Schoenborn and Seth Jones. Brendan Leipsic also had two points for the Hawks over the weekend.

Hawks Happenings Off The Ice:

Tickets for all September and October regular season games are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased at winterhawks.com, the Rose Quarter box office and the Winterhawks' ticket office inside Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston has reserved a suite at 10 Rose Garden home games this season for the Coaches' Club, a program to honor youth who inspire. The Winterhawks want to hear stories of youth who are active in the community and inspiring others. Fans can visit http://winterhawks.com/page/coaches-club to find out how to nominate someone they know.
