Portland Winterhawks News Release
Hawks Happenings On The Ice:
The Hawks hit the 100-point plateau over the weekend, and enter the final week of the season just one point behind the Edmonton Oil Kings and Tri-City Americans (101 points each) in the race for the Scotty Munro Trophy and home ice advantage throughout the playoffs. They'll open the postseason with games next Friday and Saturday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum, both starting at 7 p.m. Tickets for those games are on sale now.
Sven Bartschi notched his first NHL goal yesterday in Calgary's 4-3 win over the Minnesota Wild. Bartschi remains in Calgary as an emergency call-up, as nine Flames players missed yesterday's game due to injury. Bartschi will be returned to Portland when two of Calgary's injured players are ready to return to their lineup.
Defenseman Joe Morrow has a career-high 64 points this season, second in the league among blueliners, and the highest point total by a Hawks defenseman since Andrew Ference had 68 in the 1997-98 Memorial Cup season.
If Brendan Leipsic scores twice in the final three games, it will give the team four 30-goal scorers for the second consecutive season. This season Ty Rattie has 54, Brad Ross has 42, Bartschi has 33 and Leipsic is at 28. Last season Nino Niederreiter had 41, Ryan Johansen had 40, Bartschi had 34 and Ross had 31.
Nic Petan achieved a first in team history Saturday, as his four-goal game in Seattle was the first time in franchise history a 16-year-old had scored four times in one game. It was the third four-goal game by a Hawks player this season, joining Rattie and Bartschi.
