Portland Pirates Announce 2013-14 Regular Season Schedule

Portland, Maine - The Portland Pirates, AHL Affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes, today announced their 2013-14 regular season schedule. The Pirates will play 13 games at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée as part of the Last Call Ticket Pack brewed by Baxter Brewing Company before returning to the newly renovated Cumberland County Civic Center for 25 games starting on January 17, 2014*.

The Pirates will open their season against archrival Providence Bruins on October 12 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, their second straight home opener at the Colisée. Portland will then face the revived Hartford WolfPack at the Colisée on October 19, 2013 at 7 PM for the 7th annual Pink in the Rink game for Breast Cancer Awareness and will wear special Pink Jerseys. The Pirates will face the St. John's IceCaps 12 times during the '13-'14 season, including a two game series at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée at the end of October, and will face the division rival Worcester Sharks at home for the first time on Military Appreciation Night on November 8th, which will feature special edition Military Jerseys. The Pirates will finish off the 2013 portion of the schedule with the annual New Year's Eve game at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée when they face the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 5:30 PM.

The Pirates will face the Norfolk Admirals, who they have not played since the 2011-12 season, 4 times during the '13-'14 season, including at the final "Last Call" Pirates game at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée on January 10, 2014. The Pirates will then open the newly renovated Cumberland County Civic Center on January 17, 2014 at 7 PM against the Eastern Conference powerhouse Springfield Falcons. After returning to Portland, the Pirates will host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Adirondack Phantoms, Hershey Bears, and Albany Devils one time each. The Pirates' Go Red Night will take place on February 15th, 2014 against the St. John's IceCaps, while the second annual Purple Night for Cancer Awareness, featuring special purple jerseys, will happen on March 22, 2014 against Providence.

The Pirates will battle the Manchester Monarchs 12 times during the 2013-14 season in a continuation of the VIP Cup Series, presented by VIP Parts, Tires, and Service. Portland will open their VIP Cup defense at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée on November 15th with a special 7:30 PM start time. Last season, the Pirates clinched the first ever VIP Cup in April with a 4-2 victory in Manchester, giving them a 7-5 series win. Portland will face Manchester 3 times during the month of April, including in the final regular season game on Sunday, April 20th, 2014 at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

This season's schedule features a total of 33 weekend games, including 7 Sunday games in Portland. The Pirates will play only 5 weekday games this season, including the New Year's Eve game on December 31st, which will have a special 5:30 start time, and only one Wednesday game at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston (October 30 vs. St. John's). The Pirates will play the Manchester Monarchs in a special 1:00 PM game on Superbowl Sunday, February 2nd.

The Pirates' Opening Night will be on October 12th at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston.
