Utah Flash News Release
OREM, UT, Jan. 25, 2010 - Monday night marked the first ever meeting between the Utah Flash and the Maine Red Claws. A solid shooting night and team effort for Maine gave them a convincing 107-84 win.
Kosta Koufos from the Utah Jazz made his season debut appearance in a Flash uniform. His six points in the first quarter helped lead the Flash but they were down 22-29 as J.R. Giddens and Alexis Ajinca of Maine each had eight points in the quarter.
The Flash tied the game in the second quarter with an Andre Ingram three-point basket with five minutes left in the half. They forced 15 turnovers and were led by Orien Greene's nine first half points to take the lead 46-44 at half. Ajinca led the way for Maine with 10 points and six rebounds in the half.
Both teams came out trading baskets to start the third quarter of play until Maine went on a 14-0 run and led 64-50 with just over three minutes to play in the quarter. The Flash only scored 12 points in the quarter and finished the quarter down 58-71.
The fourth quarter didn't look any better for the Flash as they shot just 36% for the game and trailed by as many as 26 points. Maine shot over 50 % for the game and had six players in double figures scoring.
"They did a great job executing their offense and had a lot of energy on defense, where we had a hard time finding any kind of mental or physical energy," said Head Coach Brad Jones. "We just didn't have a very good focus today for whatever reason, which is totally unacceptable."
Giddens led Maine with 22 points and 10 rebounds while Brian Hamilton led the way for the Flash scoring a game high 23 points. The next Flash game will take place in Reno on Saturday Jan. 30.
