Polar Twins to help kids this holiday season

Winston-Salem Polar Twins News Release

Winston-Salem, N.C. – This year, the Winston-Salem Polar Twins are joining forces with FOX8 and the United States Marine Corps Reserve to give children in need a holiday to remember by providing toys to Gifts for Kids and Toys for Tots for distribution in the Piedmont this holiday season.

Gifts for Kids

Thousands of children throughout the Piedmont will be in foster care this holiday season. Foster families do not get any assistance with gifts for the holidays. FOX8 Gifts for Kids began 15 years ago to try to help those families. FOX 8 works directly with the Department of Social Services in 13 Piedmont counties to get the first names and wishes of more than 2,200 children through the campaign.

Polar Twins fans are being asked to help out the Gifts for Kids program by bringing a new, unwrapped toy to games on December 9, 10, and 11. Fans who bring a toy will receive $2 off the regular ticket price. Not sure what to bring? FOX8 has provided this list of suggestions:

Infants – Clothes, plush toys, sleepers, developmental toys, and diapers.

Toddlers - 5 years – Dolls, trucks, educational toys, riding toys, tricycles, books, and blocks.

6-11 years – Bikes (with helmets), scooters, Legos, action figures, remote control cars, footballs, basketballs, Barbies, craft kits, hand-held games, and board games.

12-18 years – Personal CD players, jewelry, watches, cameras, make-up, cologne, bath & body items, gift certificates, Gameboys, backpacks, purses, and duffel bags.

Polar Twins players will make an on-air delivery of all toys collected from December 9-11 to FOX8 during the 8 a.m. hour on Monday, December 13.

Teddy Bear Toss for Toys for Tots

The Polar Twins will be holding their first annual Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday, December 18 when the Macon Trax come to town. Fans are asked to bring a stuffed animal to the game to throw on the ice following the first Polar Twins goal of the night. All toys collected will be collected by the United States Marine Corps Reserve for their Toys for Tots program. All fans that bring a stuffed animal to the game receive $2 off the regular ticket price.

The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help needy children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation's most valuable natural resources - our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future. The Polar Twins are happy to be a part of this long-standing tradition by helping Toys for Tots achieve these objectives right here in the Triad.

The Polar Twins return to LJVM Coliseum Annex on Thursday, December 9 to take on the Knoxville Ice Bears at 7:30 p.m. Group tickets can be purchased through the Polar Twins office by calling (336) 724-1011.
