Bradenton Marauders News Release

Bradenton, Fla.--- *The Marauders (33-29) and the Mighty Mussels (32-30) met for the fifth game of a six-game series at LECOM Park on a pristine Saturday night for baseball at the corner of 9th and 17th. The Marauders counted on timely home run hitting to power themselves to a 3-0 win.

The game saw little action offensively in the first inning as Marauders starter Derek Diamond put on a show. The California-born right-hander tossed five shutout innings in which he allowed only four hits while striking out five on his way to earning his fifth win of the season.

Bradenton's bats came alive in the home half of the second inning. When Pirates' top 30 prospect Shalin Polanco blasted a ball deep to right, collecting his 11th home run of the season to give the Marauders a 1-0 lead.

The game fell stale through the middle third, with both pitching staff's having relatively successful nights on the mound. The Marauders combined bullpen effort of Elijah Birdsong and team ERA leader Ryan Harbin highlighted the night. Harbin struck out five in two innings while knocking his ERA down to an impressive 1.04.

The Young Bucs got some welcomed insurance on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh when they rallied with two outs. Tanner Treadaway reached on a slow roller up the middle to bring Geovanny Planchart to the plate. The Bradenton catcher smacked a two-run home run over the leftfield wall to put the hometown boys up 3-0 with a pair of innings to play.

The Mussels brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth, but Harbin would shut the door on the comeback effort to secure the 3-0 win while earning his first save of the season.

Bradenton looks to clinch the series win on Sunday afternoon, with Dominic Perachi expected to start.
