Point Named to Team Pacific

Hockey Alberta and BC Hockey released their 22 man roster that will make up Team Pacific for the upcoming 2013 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge, Moose Jaw Warrior Brayden Point is one of eighteen WHLers chosen for the squad.

"This is a great honour for Brayden, we know how much it means to him to have this opportunity," said Warriors General Manager Alan Millar. "He plays a big role with our organization and this is an accomplishment that he should be proud of. We'd like to wish Brayden and all of Team Pacific good luck at this year's tournament."

Point was taken 14th overall in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft; he is currently Moose Jaw's rookie scoring leader with six goals and 16 points and is second in the WHL in scoring among rookies. The Calgary product played five regular season games last year as an affiliate player, he also suited up in 14 playoff games scoring seven goals and finishing with 10 points.

The World Under 17 Hockey Challenge will take place from December 29, 2012 to January 4, 2013 in Victoriaville and Drummondville, Quebec. It's a 27 game tournament and features the best players in the world in the 1996 age group, 18 players who took part in this tournament in the past were selected in the first round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft that includes Moose Jaw Warriors Morgan Rielly (5th overall, Toronto Maple Leafs).

Team Pacific has never won gold at the Under 17's; they have won silver five times and captured bronze five times. Russia claimed the 2012 gold medal when the event was held in Windsor, Ontario (USA and Team Ontario won silver and bronze). In 2011 the event was held in Winnipeg, Ontario won gold while USA and Pacific took silver and bronze.
