TONIGHT:
The Ontario Reign (9-5) and Allen Americans (9-4) play the third match of the Western Conference Finals at the Allen Event Center. The winner of this series will face the winner of the Eastern Conference Finals (Toledo Walleye vs. South Carolina Stingrays) in the Kelly Cup Finals. This is the first time both teams have appeared in the Conference Finals in ECHL play; Allen previously won back-to-back President's Cups in the Central Hockey League before joining the ECHL for 2014-15. The Reign and Americans split the regular season series at 1-1-0-0.
CANNATA RETURNS TO FORM:
Despite seeing the most shots on goal that the Reign have faced on Monday, Joe Cannata handled the pressure admirably in his first start in a month, as the goaltender secured Ontario's second shutout of the postseason with 35 saves, giving Ontario a new single-season record for most shutouts in a single playoff year.
WHEN THE POWER PLAY IS HUMMING, THE #REIGNTRAIN IS ROLLING:
Following Monday's win, a clear trend has emerged for Ontario so far in the postseason: when the team scores on the power play, the Reign are 8-1; when unable to convert on the man advantage, Ontario is 1-4.
REGISTER PILING UP SHOTS IN BLACKWATER'S ABSENCE:
The temporary loss of Judd Blackwater has allowed Matt Register to take the team shots on goal lead with 42 in 14 contests. This figure is third among defenseman, and Register is the only blueliner of the four remaining teams in the postseason to lead his team in the statistic.
