Playoff Picture Getting Murky

Elmira Pioneers News Release

It could go down to the wire for the remaining playoff positions in the NL East. Currently, it appears 3 teams (Elmira, Adirondack and Albany) are the top competitors for two spots.

The Pioneers trail New Jersey by 7 games with 23 games remaining in the regular season. NJ already won the first half crown in the South. If NJ wins the 2nd half then their playoff opponent would be determined by the team in the NLEast with the next best overall record, regardless of subdivision (meaning Elmira would be contending with Albany and Adirondack for the available playoff spot).

It is also worth noting that Albany leads Quebec (the first half champs) by a 1/2 game in the North. If Quebec should win the 2nd half then the top two teams with the next best overall records would advance to the post-season. If Albany wins the 2nd half then it would primarily be between Elmira and Adirondack for the other remaining post-season position.

Elmira will play a 3-game series at Adirondack next week. The Pioneers are 3-6 this season versus the Lumberjacks. Elmira closes the regular season with a 3-game series versus Albany at Dunn Field on Aug 30-31 and Sept 1. The Pioneers are 6-3 against the Diamond Dogs this season.

Elmira has a 4-game series vs. the New Jersey Jackals at Dunn Field August 22-25. The Pioneers are 3-7 against NJ this year and suffered a 3-game series sweep at Yogi Berra Stadium this past weekend.

The Pioneers have no more games against Brockton this season. Elmira finished 7-7 vs. the Rox.
