
Pioneers Add Former NY Yankee Michael Coleman

The Pioneers have added former Red Sox/Yankee outfielder Michael Coleman for their push toward the Northern League Playoffs. Coleman will make his Pioneers debut Thursday night, August 8 vs. the Allentown Ambassadors.
Elmira released OF Norm Hutchins to make room for Coleman.
The Red Sox drafted Coleman in the 18th round of the 1994 draft. He made his big league debut with Boston in 1997. In 2000 he was traded to the Reds and was then quickly dealt to the Yankees along with Drew Henson prior to the 2001 season.
"Coleman will add some more pop to the middle of our lineup," said Pioneers Manager Mitch Lyden. "Going into the end of the season, his added power and experience will be a great asset to the team."
The 26-year-old Coleman stepped in for All-Star CF Bernie Williams in 2001 playing 12 games going.211, 1hr, 7rbi. A quadriceps injury limited his playing time overall in 2001as he played only 41games with the Yankees AAA affiliate in Columbus (Oh.).
This season with Boston's AAA club in Pawtucket (R.I.) he was batting .235, 9 HR's and 22 RBI in limited playing time.
Coleman's best season came in 1999 with Pawtucket in which he played in 115 games batting .268 with 30 HR's, 74 RBI with 29 doubles, 2 triples and 14 sb's.
