Playoff Time

The IronBirds begin their first ever playoff series in franchise history tonight. They won the McNamara Division by 3 1/2 games over the Brooklyn Cyclones and the Hudson Valley Renegades. The IronBirds overtook the Cyclones with a two-game sweep over the weekend and pulled away with a three-game sweep of the Lowell Spinners. The IronBirds enter the playoffs on a five-game win streak, equaling the team's longest win-streak of the season.

Tale Of The Tape

In the regular season the IronBirds took two out of three from the ValleyCats in both series, going 4-2 against them on the season. In the six games the two teams played, Trey Mancini hit .313 (5-16) with four runs scored and four runs batted-in. Conor Bierfeldt and Jeff Kemp each had home runs, with Bierfeldt hitting for a .333 batting average (6-18) and Kemp hitting .318 (7-22). Sebastian Vader and Steve Brault each had a start against the ValleyCats, with neither of them factoring in a decision. Vader gave up just one run on two hits in six innings of work. Brault pitched three innings, giving up just one hit and no runs. For Tri-City, James Ramsay hit .333 (6-for-18) in the season series, scoring three runs with a double and a triple. Michael Feliz and Kyle Westwood each had starts against the IronBirds with neither of them factoring in a decision. Feliz pitched five innings, giving up one unearned run on four hits. Westwood gave up just one hit in five scoreless innings.

Schedule Breakdown

The two teams will play a best of three series. Aberdeen will host tonight's opening game with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The two teams will travel to Troy, New York for games two and three (if necessary) held at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. Game two is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m start. Should the teams play a third and decisive game, first pitch will be scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

On The Mound Tonight...

RHP Sebastian Vader and his 7-3 record will get the nod for the IronBirds in game 1. Vader made 13 starts in 14 appearances, pitching to a 2.43 ERA in 85.1 innings pitched. He will be opposed by RHP Michael Feliz who carries a 4-2 record with a 1.96 ERA into the playoffs. He made 10 starts in 14 appearances, pitching 69 innings.
