Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif.- The Bakersfield Condors of the West Coast Hockey League will host the San Diego Gulls this Thursday and Friday, as their Southern Division Semifinal series shifts to Bakersfield for Game Three and, if necessary, Game Four at Centennial Garden. Both games start at 7:00pm, with doors opening at 6:00pm. The Condors trail two games to none in their best-of-five series.

Game Three is on Thursday night as KGET-TV 17 and IHOP sponsor the opening round of the Taylor Cup Playoffs. Condors Cheer Shakers will be given to everyone in attendance. The Condors face a must-win situation to stay alive in the 2002 post season.

Thursday's game will also feature a visit from two cars that can be seen at the Mesa Marin Raceway. Bakersfield native, and NASCAR's Rookie of the Year, Kevin Harvick, will return to race at Mesa Marin next weekend. His #29 car will make an appearance at the game, as will the Bakersfield Police Department 911 car, which is sponsored by the Condors. Both vehicles will be on display at the Centennial Garden Plaza, and later on the ice during the first intermission.

Friday's game, sponsored by KGET-TV 17 and IHOP, features the Metal Blade Jersey Auction. Condors Metal Blade game warm up jerseys will be auctioned off after the game, plus everyone in attendance has a chance to win one of five to be given away. All proceeds from the jersey auction will be donated to the Petroleum Shrine Club.

The Petroleum Shrine Club is a non-profit organization, which works with Los Angeles Shriner's Hospitals to provide no-cost treatment to children suffering from orthopedic, birth, and burn defects. Funds raised from the Metal Blade Jersey Auction will help kids from Kern County receive treatment in Los Angeles at the Shriner's Hospital.

Tickets for the playoffs are available at the same affordable rates as they are during the regular season, ranging from $5 to $19. Single-game playoff tickets are available through the Centennial Garden Box Office, which opens at 10:00am Monday through Saturday. Tickets may also be purchased by phone through Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at www.ticketmaster.com or at any Ticketmaster location. Group outings for the playoffs and season tickets for next season may be purchased by calling 324-PUCK (7825), or by visiting the Condors office at Centennial Garden.

Should the Condors battle past the San Diego Gulls, the Southern Division Finals are scheduled to start on Friday, April 26th and could run through May 4th. The Condors would host Games Three and Four on Wednesday and Friday, May 1st and 3rd.

Condors droppings: "Condors Corner," which airs regularly every Thursday night on KGEO AM 1230, will take place an hour earlier this week for a special playoff edition from 5-6pm. This week's show will be live from the Holiday Inn Select, and features Head Coach Paul Kelly, and the WCHL Vice President of Hockey Operations and acting Commissioner Adam Keller... The April website auction features the Flowers for Mom package. The highest bidder will have a Condors player personally deliver a bouquet of flowers to their mom on Mother's Day, May 12th. Log onto the Condors website at www.bakersfieldcondors.com to bid. All proceeds go towards the American Red Cross - Kern County Chapter.
