Jackson Bandits News Release
Jackson, Miss. - The Jackson Bandits announced today that goaltender Andrew Allen has been returned to the team by the National Hockey League's Florida Panthers. In his first stint in the NHL, Allen dressed for two games with the Panthers but did not see any game action. Allen has a 3-1 record with a 2.01 GAA in four playoff starts for the Bandits. His .952 save percentage ranks third in the ECHL during the postseason.
"We're happy to have Andrew back," added Bandits Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Derek Clancey. "He gained valuable experience with the Panthers and I look forward to him putting that to good use for us."
Allen, 25, was acquired from the Macon Whoopee along with defenseman Doug Schueller at the ECHL trade deadline in late February. In six regular season starts with the Bandits, the 6-foot-4, 210-pound native of Vankleek Hill, Ontario posted a 3-2-1 record and 2.29 GAA. Allen signed with the Panthers as a free agent prior to the 2001-2002 season. He is the third Bandits goalie to dress for an NHL game, joining David Brumby and Derek Gustafson, who dressed for Minnesota last season.
The Bandits return to action when they host the Mississippi Sea Wolves in Game 3 of the Southwest Division Finals on Friday, April 19. Faceoff at Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson is 7 p.m. The Sea Wolves currently lead the best-of-five series two games to none. If necessary, Game 4 will be Saturday, April 20 at Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson, starting at 7 p.m. All Bandits playoff games can be heard on ESPN Radio 930 AM - WSLI with the Voice of the Bandits Mike Sheehan.
