Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release

PORT HURON, MI - When Nick Horne reached the Midget Major level of competition, he had no clue where he might play junior hockey.

At the time, the closest NAHL team to the Marysville native was the Motor City Metal Jackets in Trenton, MI. That would leave the forward facing long commutes or moving in with a billet family, as he would with any other NAHL team.

In the summer of 2010, a new opportunity arose when the Port Huron Fighting Falcons were announced as the newest NAHL team. By summer 2011, Horne had found himself playing junior hockey in his home town, in front of his friends and family.

"Port Huron is a tight-knit hockey community, and it's been great to have the chance to play in front of the great fans we have here," said Horne, who is entering his third season with the Fighting Falcons.

Horne has played over 100 games in his first two NAHL seasons, including 14 playoff battles. He missed just three games last season, tallying 28 points on 11 goals and 17 assists in the process.

When asked about his favorite memory of last season, Horne doesn't hesitate to bring up the eight-game winning streak the team went on to end the regular season and steal home ice advantage from the Johnstown Tomahawks in the first round of the playoffs.

Like most NAHL players, Horne, who began his hockey career at just four years old, hopes to turn his junior hockey success into a Division 1 NCAA commitment for next season. If he reaches that goal, he knows it won't be because of any superstitions. Horne's pregame routine is more about preparation than superstition, such as re-taping his stick and getting in a good warm-up before each game.

The Fighting Falcons return to McMorran Arena for their fourth NAHL season this fall. Season ticket packages start at just $175, and the first 25 fans to purchase two or more full season ticket packages will receive a free game-worn Fighting Falcons jersey. The team's home opener takes place Saturday, September 28 against the Michigan Warriors at 7 p.m.
