CHICAGO - The Chicago Sky has selected Plainfield South High School as the fourth weekly winner of its 2016 "High School Team of the Week" program. They receive the honor after being nominated for their achievements in the classroom, community and on the basketball court.

The Plainfield South Cougars have used a team-first approach this season to move their basketball program forward. The Cougars made school history after winning two games in the Lincoln-Way East Medieval Tournament. In its first year competing in the State Farm Holiday Classic, the team went 2-2 and had a player named to the all-tournament team. The Cougars are 7-11 on the season and 1-4 in conference.

The Cougars also maintain high academic standards, demonstrated in their 3.68 team grade point average. In a community effort, the players organized several fundraisers to benefit cystic fibrosis, including a bake sale, a raffle for baskets and a t-shirt sale. With the help of Oswego High School, the team raised a total of $2,000 to contribute to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis.

Plainfield South is the fourth program to be acknowledged as a 2016 award recipient. As a Chicago Sky "High School Basketball Team of the Week" award winner, the Plainfield South Cougars are invited to enjoy a Chicago Sky game, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world's best female basketball players. At halftime of the game, the team will be honored at center court.

All teams that compete in IHSA class 1A, 2A, 3A or 4A competitions are eligible to win a weekly honor. Nominations from parents, coaches, school faculty members and players are welcome and should be completed on the Chicago Sky website (www.chicagosky.net) through February 22.

At the end of the 10-week program, each weekly winning team will be entered to win the "High School Team of the Year" award for 2016. The winner, determined through online voting, will be announced on Opening Night 2016.
