The Pittsburgh Riverhounds could not overcome two early goals in their match against the Wilmington Hammerheads on Friday night, losing 5-1 to remain winless in USL PRO League competition.

The first goal was scored just 21 seconds into the match, on Wilmington's first run of play down the right side.

As Hammerheads forward Samuel Ochoa received a volley pass toward the right end-line, he one-timed a low, driving shot toward Riverhounds goalkeeper Hunter Gilstrap, who knocked it down, but an unmarked Jordan Hamilton calmly put the rebound into the open net.

In the 5th minute, in almost a mirror-image of the first goal, Wilmington played a ball to the right side of the box. As Hamilton and Riverhounds defender Mike Green converged on the ball, Hamilton was able to gain possession, as Green slipped. Hamilton quickly sent a low-lined shot toward Gilstrap, who had trouble controlling it, and Steven Miller swiftly sent it into the goal.

The Hammerheads took a commanding lead in the 35th minute, as Hamilton was able to get in space down the left side, as he approached the goal, he played a pass off to the right to Ochoa, who one-timed a shot into the open net.

The Riverhounds got on the board in the 61st minute, as Collins John scored his third goal of the season.

It started with a nice service from Jose Angulo to Matt Dallman on the right flank. Dallman sent a cross back into the box to Angulo who took a shot that deflected off John's foot. Fortunately, John was able to turn and send the loose ball past Hammerheads goalkeeper Matt Glaeser.

Seconds later, the Riverhounds continued to add more pressure. John's header was saved, and Angulo had a great look at the sharp-angle rebound, but it went off the bar.

The score remained 3-1 until the closing minutes, when the Hammerheads put a few exclamation points on their victory.

Miller set up Cody Arnoux with an insurance goal in the 90th minute.

Then, as it appeared that Wilmington were holding the ball after a short corner kick into stoppage time, they played the ball up the endline to find Will Heaney, as he was entering the game, streaking past the overloaded Riverhounds defenders, to seal the 5-1 win.

In his debut as interim head coach, Niko Katic's starting eleven included: Gilstrap; Rob Vincent, Andrew Marshall, Green, Sterling Flunder; Danny Earls, Anthony Obodai, Kevin Kerr, Dallman; Brian Ownby, John.

The Hounds (0-5-3) will trek to Charleston on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff against the Battery.
