Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed goaltender David Brown to an NHL entry level contract, it was announced on Tuesday by General Manager Ray Shero.
A four-year standout at Notre Dame, Brown led the nation with 30 wins and a 1.58 goals against average in his senior season, while his six shutouts and .931 save percentage were both second. His goals against average, shutout and save percentage marks from the 2006-07 season all set new Notre Dame records.
The 22-year old from Stoney Creek, Ontario guided the Fighting Irish to their first ever CCHA regular season title and the school's first ever CCHA tournament championship. He then led Notre Dame to the school's first ever NCAA tournament win, collecting a 3-2 double-overtime victory against Alabama-Huntsville on March 23.
Following his outstanding campaign, Brown was named a finalist for the 2007 Hobey Baker Award, given annually to the top collegiate player in the United States, and was named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's Player of the Year.
Selected by Pittsburgh in the eighth round (228th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Brown appeared in 111 games with the Fighting Irish during four seasons, recording a 55-38-11 record with a 2.32 goals against average, a .916 save percentage and 12 shutouts. His career goals against average, shutout and save percentage totals are all Notre Dame records, while his wins total is second in school history.
Brown's shutout streak of 193:27 from Oct. 17-Nov. 8, 2003 is the longest such streak in Notre Dame history. He was named the Irish's rookie of the year following the 2003-04 season, having posted a 14-7-3 record with a 2.32 goals against average, .925 save percentage and a then-record four shutouts on the year.
