Canucks Sign Schneider, Classen, Jaffray; Re-Sign Moran

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose, announced they have signed goaltender Cory Schneider.

Schneider, 21, has spent the past three seasons with the Boston College Eagles in the Hockey East Conference of the NCAA. He led the Eagles to the Frozen Four finals the past two seasons. In 97 career games with Boston College, the Marblehead, MA native has college record of 65-25-7 with a goals against average of 2.06 and a save percentage of .926. Last season, Schneider went 29-12-1 with a goals against average of 2.15 and a save percentage of .925. He led the entire NCAA in wins (29) and saves (1111), along with minutes played (2516) in 2006-07. Schneider has also appeared in a pair of IIHF Under-20 World Championships where he helped guide Team USA to a silver medal in 2006 in Vancouver.

CANUCKS SIGN GREG CLASSEN

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose, announced they have signed centre Greg Classen.

Classen, 29, spent last season overseas with the Hamburg Freezers of the German Elite League. In 50 games with the Freezers, the Aylsham, SK native scored nine goals and 26 assists for 35 points and 70 penalty minutes. Classen has played in 224 career games previously in the American Hockey League - all with the Milwaukee Admirals - where he's scored 64 goals and 87 assists for 151 points and 235 penalty minutes. His best season with the Admirals came in 2005-06 when he helped Milwaukee to the Calder Cup Final. That year, he scored 24 goals and 26 assists for 50 points in 76 games and then added a goal and 15 assists in 21 games in the playoffs. Classen did earn a Calder Cup championship with the Admirals back in 2004.

Classen has appeared in 90 career NHL games with the Nashville Predators. In that time, he has scored seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points and 48 penalty minutes.

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose, announced they have signed winger Jason Jaffray.

Jaffray, 26, enjoyed a career season in 2006-07 with the Moose. He led the team in scoring with 35 goals and 46 assists for 81 points (all career highs) in 77 games. The Olds, AB native tied the Moose franchise mark for powerplay goals with 16 and finished the season tied for the American Hockey League lead in game-winning goals with nine. He also tied the franchise mark for the most goals in one game when he scored four goals in one game against the Chicago Wolves on Oct. 24/06 and also broke the team record for consecutive games with a goal at seven straight. Overall, Jaffray ended the season tied for fifth in scoring the AHL. He made his first-ever appearance at the Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic in Toronto where he scored a goal and an assist. At the end of the season, Jaffray was named the team's Most Valuable Player. In 13 Calder Cup playoff games last season, he once again led the team in scoring with six goals and seven assists for 13 points and six penalty minutes.

In his career, Jaffray has appeared in 164 games with the Moose where he's collected 51 goals and 85 assists for 136 points and 139 penalty minutes. He has played in 201 career AHL games with the Moose, Cleveland, Wilkes-Barre, and Norfolk where he's scored 621 goals and 92 assists for 153 points and 162 penalty minutes.

CANUCKS RE-SIGN BRAD MORAN

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose, announced they have re-signed centre Brad Moran.

Moran, 28, appeared in 69 games last season with the Moose. In that time, the Abbotsford, B.C. native scored 25 goals and lead the team in assists with 47 for 72 points which was good for second on the team. He also tied for Manitoba's longest points streak with points in seven consecutive games from Dec. 5/06-Dec. 16/06. In that span, he recorded at least one assist in each of those seven games. In 13 Calder Cup playoff games, Moran was again second in team scoring with five goals and six assists for 11 points. He lead the Moose in playoff powerplay goals last season with three and also had a three-game post-season goal-scoring streak. Moran also appeared in three games last season with the Canucks where he collected an assist and two penalty minutes.

Moran has now played in 403 career games over five previous seasons with the Syracuse Crunch and one season with the Moose. In that time, he has scored 123 goals and 190 assists for 313 points and 269 penalty minutes. Last season's production was tied for Moran's best season as a pro with the 2004-05 campaign when he was with the Crunch and scored 26 goals and 46 assists for 72 points. In 35 career AHL post-season games, Moran has scored 18 goals and 21 assists for 39 points and 18 penalty minutes.

Moran has also appeared in eight career games in the NHL with the Canucks and Columbus Blue Jackets. In that time, he has a goal and two assists for three points and four penalty minutes.

Moran was originally Buffalo's seventh round choice, 191st overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
