Augusta GreenJackets News Release
North Augusta, SC - The Augusta GreenJackets (Atlanta Braves) dropped their second straight game, as the Carolina Mudcats (Milwaukee Brewers) utilized a six-run seventh inning to take the Friday victory. Augusta (29-32) gave up a season high 14 hits for the second straight game, while the Mudcats (32-28) exploded for eight extra base knocks in the win.
Carolina started the game with an ominous pair of doubles off of soft contact, taking an early 2-0 lead over the GreenJackets. Owen Murphy, Augusta's Friday night starter, was able to bounce back nicely with a scoreless second. Augusta took the lead in the bottom of inning two, with three walks and two hit-by-pitches leading to runs batted in from E.J. Exposito, Justin Janas, and a pair for Ethan Workinger.
However, the Mudcats would even the score with an RBI single in the top of the third from Kay-Lan Nicasia and a solo home run from Jace Avina in the fourth. Owen Murphy pitched into the sixth inning for the first time in his career, but did not record an out, and the Mudcats took a 5-4 lead on a Murphy wild pitch. Landon Harper entered with two runners aboard and no outs, but was able to strike out a pair and strand them aboard.
Augusta tied up the game in the bottom of the sixth, as Dawson Dimon walked before stealing the second base of his 92-game career, setting up Justin Janas for his second RBI of the game. It would be in vain, though, as the Mudcats pieced up the GreenJackets staff in the seventh inning, scoring six runs on six hits, five of which went for extra bases. Chad Bryant induced his second one-pitch double play of the week, but the damage was done and the Mudcats led by a commanding 11-5 score, which held to the final out.
Workinger's two RBIs brought him up to nine on the series, and tied him with Exposito for the team high at 29. The GreenJackets have now given up six runs in an inning four times in their last 14 games.
The GreenJackets remain at home for two more games against the Carolina Mudcats (Milwaukee Brewers), including the Augusta Pimento Cheese game on Saturday and Father's Day on Sunday! For tickets and information, click here: https://www.milb.com/augusta/fans/gj-homestand-preview!
