Mankato, Minn. - The Mankato MoonDogs beat the Alexandria Beetles Sunday night, 4-2, at Franklin Rogers Park. The MoonDogs were led by starting pitcher Jordan Remer (San Francisco), slugger Shaun Cooper (Utah) and Mike Rivera (Fresno Pacific).
Cooper hit his 18th home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning, tying the game 1-1. Cooper is now second all-time in Northwoods League single season home run history, surpassing Jay Gibbons (Manitowoc '97). Cooper needs one more home run to tie for the first on the all-time single season Northwoods League home run list. Rivera hit his second home run of the season in the third inning, scoring Nick Judkins (Creighton) from second that capped of a three run inning for the 'Dogs to put them up 4-1.
Remer pitcher a fabulous game for the MoonDogs, pitching five innings, giving up two hits and one run, while tying his season high for strikeouts with eight. Remer now moves onto 4-3 on the season. Logan Willard (Central Iowa CC) made his second appearance of the season, pitching two innings, giving up two hits and striking out two batters. Patrick Goelz got his eight save of the season, pitching one inning, giving up now hits and striking out one.
The MoonDogs will play Alexandria again, Monday night at 7:05 at Franklin Rogers Park. Monday night is Back to School Night presented by Hot 96.7 and Capstone Publishing.
