Madison Mallards News Release
MADISON, WI - The Madison Mallards return to the "Duck Pond" Sunday for a 5:05 p.m. game against the Battle Creek Bombers. The teams will play just one game before embarking on new quests within the Northwoods League on Monday. The game is also the final time the two division rivals will face each other in Madison this season.
Battle Creek will send pitcher Michael Caley (Indiana Wesleyan) to the mound to make his second start of the season. In one previous appearance with the Bombers, Caley allowed five runs (four earned) in only one inning pitched in a 19-3 loss versus Eau Claire. He is 0-1 on the season and will look to the division's second-best offense to fuel a team that is only 1.5 games out of first place.
The Bombers lead the division in both doubles (98) and triples hit (18), and are second in stolen bases (97). The team is led by Daniel Rockett (San Antonio), who is hitting .312 with six home runs and 44 runs batted in. Battle Creek also has a total of four hitters batting over .300.
Tom Windle (Minnesota) will throw for the Mallards Sunday. Windle is 1-3 this season with a 5.45 earned run average over 12 appearances. He is making his sixth start of the season, and is 1-2 in three previous games against the Bombers this season.
Following Sunday's game, the Mallards will hit the road for three games, starting with game one of a two-game series at the Eau Claire Express on Monday. Madison will conclude their road trip with a game against the Woodchucks at Athletic Park. All three games are slated for 6:35 p.m.
