Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Rome, Ga. - Four Hudson Valley Renegades pitchers combined to set a new team record with 19 strikeouts on Sunday afternoon, as the Renegades defeated the Rome Braves 10-5 at AdventHealth Stadium.

Rome scratched out a run in the bottom of the first inning when Geraldo Quintero reached on a two-base error and scored on a Nacho Alvarez RBI single. Drew Thorpe settled down after that and turned in a strong outing for Hudson Valley.

In his third career start, Thorpe struck out 10 batters across 4.2 innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits and walking two. He became the first Renegades pitcher to strike out 10-or-more batters in a game since T.J. Sikkema fanned 10 Greenville Drive batters on July 16, 2022 at Heritage Financial Park.

The Renegades took their first lead of the game thanks to a pair of sacrifice flies in the second and third inning off Luis Vargas, but the Braves tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth on a Stephen Paolini RBI single.

Once again, Hudson Valley pushed in front with two runs off Daysbel Hernandez in the top of the fifth, but again Rome answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 4-4. They regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a Geraldo Quintero RBI single off Danny Watson, but it would be all 'Gades from that point on.

Aaron Palensky tied the game with a solo home run in the top of the seventh, and Hudson Valley went in front with three runs in the eighth against Ronaldo Alesandro. Spencer Henson brought in the go-ahead run when he reached on an error, and Rafael Flores brought in two more with a single up the middle to put the Renegades in front 8-5.

They tacked on two more in the ninth on a Ben Rice RBI single and an RBI double from Henson. Rice had a perfect day at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with an RBI and tied the Renegades franchise record by drawing four walks and stealing a base.

Harold Cortijo (4-0) picked up the win by tossing 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, and Enrique Santana set the Braves down in order in the ninth to secure the win. Thorpe, Watson, Cortijo, and Santana combined to strike out 19 Rome batters, the most-ever by the Renegades in a 9-inning game in franchise history. The team record is 23 strikeouts in a 16-inning game at Staten Island on June 27, 2005.

The Renegades enjoy an off day on Monday and get back to action taking on the Greenville Drive on Tuesday night. First pitch from Flour Field is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with coverage beginning on the Renegades Baseball Network at 6:45. RHP Chase Hampton (0-0, 2.00) takes the ball for the Renegades in the series opener, while the Drive have not announced a starter yet.

Renegades Record:

10-5
