Augusta GreenJackets News Release
North Augusta, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, won 5-2 against the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Monday Night.
The pitching for the GreenJackets showed the Grasshoppers why they are second in ERA in the SAL. All three pitchers for the GreenJackets came with their A game on Monday.
In the first inning with starting pitcher Joey Marciano on the mound, the Grasshoppers struck for two early runs. Marciano weathered the storm and pitched lights out the rest of the way. He went six innings giving up four hits and striking out five. Marciano earned his third win of the season.
He then gave the ball to Olbis Parra, who went two innings giving up only one hit to the Grasshoppers. In the ninth inning with a three run lead, the GreenJackets turned to Frank Rubio. He was once again lights out earning his seventh save of the season. That now puts him first in the SAL in saves.
At the plate, Ryan Kirby lead the way for the GreenJackets. In the third inning down one run with two-outs, Kirby doubled to right field to score Shane Matheny and Manuel Geraldo. This gave the GreenJackets a lead they would not surrender. Kirby went 3-4 on the night with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Nick Hill also had a solid performance for the GreenJackets in the ninth spot in the batting order. He went 3-4 with two RBIs.
With the win tonight, the GreenJackets regain solo first in the Southern Division of the SAL.
The GreenJackets will be back in action tomorrow at 10:35 am against the Grasshoppers for the final game of the four game series. Tomorrow there will be Comfort Keepers Baseball Bingo and Education Day #2. Gates will open at 9 am!
