Pitching Dominates Cyclones

Brooklyn, NY - The Connecticut Tigers (21-27) defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones (23-24) by a score of 4-1 Tuesday night at MCU Park. The Tigers put together a four run third inning that was highlighted by a two run single by 2B Dominic Ficociello (1-4) to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

Pitching carried the Tigers throughout the game as they used four pitchers that held the Cyclones to just one run on six hits. Starter RHP Jonathon Crawford pitched 2.2 scoreless innings while striking out three. RHP Jonathan Maciel (2-1) picked up his second win of the year as he pitched 3.1 innings and allowed one run on three hits. RHP Tanner Bailey pitched two scoreless innings and struck out three. RHP Johnnie Kirkland (2) picked up his second save as he closed out the game with a scoreless ninth.

The Cyclones pitching was equally as impressive as they struck out a bakers dozen 13 Tigers batters. Starter LHP Dario Alvarez (1-4) suffered the loss. Alvarez pitched four innings allowing two earned runs and struck out four. RHP Dawrin Frias shut down the Tiger is the five scoreless innings he pitched. Frias struck out nine of the 15 outs he recorded.

The Tigers and Cyclones play game two of their three-game series tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. at MCU Park. Tigers send out RHP Chase Edwards (0-0, 2.87) in game two. The Cyclones will start RHP Robert Gsellman (2-2, 2.09). Tomorrow's game will not be broadcasted on 1310 WICH and also will not be streamed at cttigers.com.

The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League. The Tigers are in their 4th season at Dodd Stadium. Tickets are now on sale!
