Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers were shutout 1-0 by the San Jose Giants on Tuesday at San Manuel Stadium with the lone run scored being an unearned run. It was the second time this season that the Sixers suffered that cruel circumstance as IE fell in that same scenario at LoanMart Field in Rancho Cucamonga on July 12th.

The starters for each club were strong as Jeremy Rhoades went six dominant innings for the 66ers. The righty from Wheaton, IL allowed just four hits in the game. He walked two batters and struck out nine including the first four batters he face.

San Jose (65-63, 35-23) righty Jason Forjet blanked the 66ers for six strong frames. The Florida Gulf Coast University product struck out six men while allowing four hits and three walks. He kept the 66ers from delivering in the clutch. Inland Empire stranded ten runners on base in the contest and were 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position against Forjet (6-4).

Daniel Carbonell led off the fourth for San Jose and bunted right back to the pitcher Rhoades (4-4). The righty's throw to first was off the mark and ruled an error on the pitcher. Angel Villalona followed with groundball to third base that was a possible double-play ball. The grounder was initially mishandled at third however so the Sixers could only get the out at first. Carbonell would be driven in with two outs on Brian Ragira's single to left. His unearned run proved to be the lone score of the night. Ragira is 6-for-8 with a walk and 3RBI through the first two games of the four-game set.

Alan Busenitz tossed two scoreless innings of relief for Inland Empire (59-69, 24-34) with three Ks. Geoff Broussard had a clean ninth with two strikeouts as well. For the Giants, side-arming righty Tyler Rogers allowed just a walk in two innings with two Ks. Dan Slania earned his 16th save nailing down the San Jose staff's 13th shutout of the year. The 66ers were held to just four hits. It was the 12th time that Inland Empire has been kept off the scoreboard this season.

The series continues on Wednesday at 7:05 pm. It can be heard live at 66ers.com.
