Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, Calif. - Keegan Yuhl took his first career loss as JetHawks bats missed a number of run-scoring opportunities, falling to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, 10-2, on Wednesday night at The Hangar.

Yuhl (4-1) lasted just four innings on the mound, giving up three runs on seven hits and two walks, striking out five. The loss ended the right-hander's streak of four straight quality starts.

Alex Bregman extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a first-inning single, but the JetHawks (68-61) went just 2-for-13 with men in scoring position and stranded nine runners on base.

Alex Verdugo led off the second inning with a home run to give the Quakes (71-58) a 1-0 lead. Rancho Cucamonga added two runs in the third, as Devan Ahart singled and scored on a double by Kyle Garlick, and Tyler Ogle hit a RBI-single.

The JetHawks scored their first run of the game against Quakes starter Trevor Oaks (1-0) in the fifth. Brian Holberton hit a one-out triple to right field and scored on a single by Ruben Castro, bringing Lancaster within two runs. Over five innings, Oaks allowed just one run on six hits and earned the win.

Rancho Cucamonga, however, rallied for five runs in the eighth. With Ryan Thompson on the mound in his JetHawks debut, Joey Curletta hit a pinch-hit double with one out and scored on a Garlick single. Andrew Walter then entered and loaded the bases with a walk and a hit-by-pitch. Verdugo tripled to score all three runners, and before scoring the inning's final run on a double by Paul Hoenecke. The triple completed the cycle for Verdugo, who had also singled in the third inning and doubled in the seventh.

Cody Bellinger hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth to extend the Quakes' lead to nine runs. Marc Wik led off the bottom of the inning with a walk and scored on a two-out double by James Ramsay, but Joe Broussard got Bregman to fly out to center for the game's final out.

Jordan Mills provided 1.2 scoreless innings in relief for the JetHawks, despite walking four batters and striking out just one.

The JetHawks will play for the series victory on Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Lancaster will send David Paulino (0-1, 7.04) to the mound against the Quakes' Scott Barlow (7-2, 2.45).
