Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, welcome pitcher Ben Ally back to the team for the 2003 season. "It's great for the Wild Things," said Kent Tekulve, director of baseball operations for the Wild Things. "Ben is a talented player, and we'll utilize his talents again in the organization."

Ally, 24, didn't spend much time with the Wild Things in 2002. His contract was sold to the Houston Astros organization in Mid-June of last year. Ally appeared in five games posting a 3-1 record with a 2.08 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 26 innings pitched.

Ally left The Wild Things and spent most of the season in Martinsville, VA in the Appalachian league where he was 4-3 with a 2.72 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 39 innings. He then went to the Tri City Valley in the New York Penn League. He pitched nine games, starting in three, and had a 1-1 record and a 3.72 ERA.

Ally was released during 2003 spring training with the Astros organization.

"We're going to use ally as a closer this year," said Tekulve. "With Robert Garvin gone (he was signed during the off season by San Diego), we need someone to fill that role. We think Ben is the guy to do that."

The Washington Wild Things host Chillicothe to two exhibition games at Falconi Field on May 16 and 17. They open the regular season at Kalamazoo and return home to open Falconi Field on May 28 against the Richmond Roosters. Individual game day tickets go on sale at Falconi Field May 3.
