Pit Bulls hire broadcast veteran
October 5, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Miami Majesty News Release
Sunrise, FL. The ABA Florida Pit Bulls, South Florida's newest professional sports team, announced the hiring of radio and TV veteran Tony Calatayud as the team's first Director of Broadcasting. Cal atayud's responsibilities include play-by-play announcing and hosting a weekly radio and TV coaches show featuring Pit Bulls co-owner and player/coach Tim Hardaway, formerly of the NBA's Miami Heat.
For the last six years, Calatayud has managed Spanish radio stations in both Miami and Dallas. Prior to that, he was VP/GM of 1700 The Fan sports radio in South Florida and sports director of the West Palm Beach affiliate of ABC-TV.
"Tony will bring excitement and knowledge to the many different areas we want to establish on the broadcasting end," Florida Pit Bulls (majority) owner Demetrius Ford said. "Our desire is to have excellence in everything we do here and Tony no doubt brings that to our very important radio and TV vision."
"To me, it's a tremendous privilege to work alongside Demetrius, Tim, Carl, Angela and the great people with the Pit Bulls," said Calatayud. "The ABA style is exciting and I think it will catch on in a major way here in South Florida."
One innovation on Pit Bulls broadcasts will be the use of celebrity guest analysts that will join Calatayud on the sidelines. The guests will come from sports, politics and entertainment. Also, the team will conduct a contest for a fan to win an analyst position for a Pit Bulls game. Radio and TV partners will be announced shortly.
