Portland Pirates News Release
The Pirates went 2-1 in their three games played last week. After opening action with a 2-1 loss to Lowell Tuesday night at the CCCC, Portland responded with back-to-back victories. The Pirates enjoyed an explosive 7-1 victory over Worcester Friday night and then wrapped up the weekend with a 3-2 shootout win over Lowell Saturday afternoon.
Portland has only one game this week as they host Lowell Saturday at the CCCC in a 7 p.m. faceoff.
In their first game last week, Portland was beaten by Lowell 2-1. Patrick Davis and Alexander Vasyunov scored power-play goals to lead the Devils and Mike McKenna helped the two goals stand with 29 saves. For Portland, T.J. Brennan netted his first career AHL goal to account for the Pirates offense. The Pirates outshot the Devils 30-22 in the game as Jhonas Enroth took the loss.
On Friday the Pirates skated away with an emphatic 7-1 victory over Worcester. Kyle Rank scored twice and added an assist while Derek Whitmore supplied a goal and two assists. Mark Mancari, Tyler Ennis and Travis Turnbull also enjoyed a multipoint game with a goal and an assist to the Pirates attack. Brennan rounded out the goal scoring and Matt Generous added three assists. The Sharks outshot the Pirates 34-28 in the game as Enroth posted the win.
Saturday, the Pirates traveled to Lowell to face the Devils again and posted a 3-2 shootout win. Philip Gogulla and Nathan Gerbe scored in regulation for the Pirates, while Michael Swift and Ben Walter scored for the Devils. Paul Byron and Gerbe scored in the shootout for the Pirates, but it was Mancari's shootout game-winner and a three saves on three shots by Enroth that earned the victory.
