Pirates Sign Voakes

Portland, ME - The Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League announced today that they have signed Mark Voakes to a tryout agreement. The 26 year-old forward was playing for Greenville in the ECHL where he led the Road Warriors in points and assists with 55 points and 38 assists in 60 games. The 6-foot-0 St. Thomas, Ontario native has played in 93 career ECHL games collecting 28 goals and 48 assists for 76 points. Voakes played Canadian university hockey with Wilfrid Laurier University from 2005-09.

The Pirates will be back in action two times in the next three days at the Civic Center starting with today's "Day of Hockey" presented by Irving Oil and supported by the Cumberland County Civic Center to benefit the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center. The day-long event is presented by the Portland Pirates Foundation and Huskies Youth Hockey. It's also the first Sunday Family Five Pack game of the season, and fans can purchase five Main Deck Tickets, five Daily Scrolls, and five free Chuck-a-Pies for only $60 (valued at $100 if purchased individually). All NextGen Pirates Kid's Club Members receive free tickets to the game, and special activities for NextGen Pirates Kid's Club Members only. Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m., the Pirates will welcome the two-time defending Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears to the Civic Center. Fans can complete their collection with the third of three limited edition collectible Pirates bobbleheads. The first 2,000 people into the game receive a Nathan Gerbe bobblehead, presented by WJBQ.
