
Pirates Sign DL Trevon Young for 2023 Season

The Massachusetts Pirates have signed former National Football League defensive lineman Trevon Young for the 2023 season. Young, who played his collegiate football at the University of Louisville, was a sixth-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2018 NFL Draft.
After being selected with the 205th overall pick, the Rams placed Young on their practice squad in 2018 and later activated him on December 11th. Young, (6'4", 258 lbs.) appeared in two games recovering a fumble. He remained with the Rams until the final cuts of their 2019 camp. That same season he was signed by the Cleveland Browns and remained with that organization until the Spring of 2021.
Most recently Young, who hails from Des Moines, IA was signed by the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League in 2022.
At Louisville, Young appeared in 36 games making 101 tackles including 24 for a loss with 14 sacks. He defended eight passes and had one interception. He also forced two fumbles, recovered one and blocked a kick.
In 2015 he earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference Honorable Mention status as he was 33rd in the Nation with eight and a half sacks. His breakout game was against Wake Forest as he recorded five tackles with three and a half tackles for a loss while tying a career high with three sacks. Young also forced a fumble against the Demon Deacons.
After sitting out the 2016 season with an injury he received the ACC's Brian Piccolo Award after posting 62 tackles with 12 for a loss and four and a half sacks in 2017.
Young began his football journey at Iowa Western Community College in 2013.
